Our Business

The Tucker-Downing Agency was opened just off mainstreet in Wilburton, Oklahoma in 1951. At the time it was the only Insurance Agency in Wilburton. Kensal Tucker (Grandpa Tucker) decided that the people of the area needed someone they could trust with their insurance needs and questions so he set about the task of fulfilling that need.

In 1964 Grandpa Tucker's daughter Nancy Downing and her husband Gerald joined the agency and in a few short years purchased it from Grandpa Tucker. They continued to operate the agency until 2001 when son Cliff Downing sold his agency in Tulsa, Oklahoma and moved home. Shortly after his joining The Tucker-Downing Agency Nancy and Gerald decided to retire and Cliff became the third generation in the family to operate the business.

In 2009 Cliff became the "bravest guy in Wilburton" when he hired his mother-in-law Anne Coleman. Anne had worked as an Agent for one of those "Captive" agents in McAlester. Those are the guys that only represent a single company offering multiple lines of insurance. Anne quickly realized the incredible opportunity that being able to offer multiple companies and with it multple choices to clients would bring.

Even through the tough times of recent years the agency has continued to grow both in number of satisfied customers and in number of companies we are able to offer out friends and clients.
